Baby Boomers - 5 Things You Might Not Want to Do to Fall Asleep Faster

Sometimes we are tempted to go with the solution that works the fastest even when we know it is really not the smartest thing to do. However, we live in a society of instant gratification. But what is the price we pay? Read on to find out.

Sleeping Pills are Highly Addictive - It seems like such an easy fix to a simple problem. There are so many choices that line the aisles of your favorite local drug stores. I mean, you can purchase them over the counter, after all, so how harmful can they be, right? Wrong. Doctors have been cautioning patients against the overuse of common sleeping aids for years, mainly because they can seem like an easy way out. Instead of trying to work through your problem of restlessness at night, popping two pills and calling it a night seems like a fast and painless solution.

Warm Milk Can Cause Stomach Aches - Many people are lactose intolerant these days. And even for those that are not, drinking milk at bedtime could prove quite uncomfortable throughout the night. Sure, it seems soothing, and it may coat the stomach, helping you drift off into slumber. But, expect to wake during the night once the after-effects set in. Your tummy is not given enough time to process the milk during the night, and your body is trying to rest, not digest, anything you put in it at nighttime.

Electric Bills Will Certainly Keep You Up - If you are one of those people that needs the radio or the television on at night in order to carry you off into dreamland, be advised that you are in for more restlessness in the future. Not only will the noise be highly disruptive to your dreams and your overall sleeping experience, but these appliances cost a lot of energy and money to keep them going when you are not awake. If you thought you were having trouble sleeping now, imagine how you will feel the next time an expensive bill is sitting in your mailbox.

Hypnosis - Those who suffer from insomnia often seek hypnotherapy as a means of aiding in the sleeping process. While some people have actually benefited from this method, countless others have found that it either does not work, or works a little too well. Mind control can be a very dangerous thing, and finding a highly trained professional can often be tricky. Plus, being hypnotized into sleeping seems unnatural, and will leave you feeling even groggier in the morning. It is not worth the cost for all the side effects.

Liquor Is Quicker...But Dangerous - At one point, we get fed up with our insomnia, and end up turning to the bottle to help us sleep much faster. A glass of wine, a shot of brandy, a few beers are all known to make us sleepy after awhile. In moderation, these are not necessarily bad, but when this becomes a nightly ritual, there is certainly a problem. Also, the body has to work extra hard to ensure that the waste is removed, causing the mind to stay drowsy but the rest of you to continue going internally, leaving you exhausted the next day.

Consider a aromatherapy mist for the best way to fall asleep quickly, but peacefully. It certainly won't cost as much as those pills and bills. And there is no addiction or subconscious tampering involved. Head to bed with fresh aromas on your pillow, and you will not be sorry.

Baby Boomers - Learn How to Relax Your Mind and Body Faster

Hey Baby Boomers...you are the largest generation in a long time, and let's face it. You are getting older. That is not meant in a negative way, but only as a reminder that it is high time you began taking care of yourself. Your health and well-being are so important at this age to stave off a wide variety of medical problems that affect both the body and the mind. So, if you are suffering from insomnia, it is imperative that you work toward a good night of sleep. Otherwise, it will catch up with you in the long run.

As you gingerly approach retirement age, you may feel that you will have all the time in the world to catch up on sleep once you are no longer working. This is the wrong attitude to have, because you can never really make up for lost sleep. In fact, trying is an exercise in futility. You should be focusing on the present, and working toward ensuring a good night of rest, each and every day.

Since you have so much to think about within the next few years, it might be a good idea to take your mind off things once in awhile. In order to do this, you have to find something that has a calming effect on you and the rest will fall into place. Since you are going to want to continue saving for that pending retirement, saving money is key. Rather than going to expensive spas and such, you can create a whole relaxation sanctuary in the comfort of your own home.

You might want to light some scented candles in your home and have a wonderful aroma permeate the house. If aromatherapy happens to tickle your fancy, you should especially try it at night. A little spritz on your linens and your insomnia will definitely not follow you into your golden years. This is a great way to train your body to fall asleep peacefully and naturally so you are on a normal schedule and will not delve deeper into the horrible world of night time restlessness.

Another great way to relax in order to maintain a healthy pattern of sleep is to do some stretching exercises. While you do not want to overexert yourself at bedtime, ensuring that your joints and muscles are not tight will allow you to rest easier. You might want to try yoga or Pilates in the evening to help center yourself, both body and mind. Exercise is extremely important for people as they get older and exercises that help you to focus and relax are all the better.

You do not want to feel uncomfortable and groggy all the time as a result of your insomnia, especially as you are looking forward to a long and productive retirement. Enhance your life by creating feelings of serenity and getting a good night of rest. The longer you wait, the harder it is to feel good, both inside and out.

Naming your baby

Start looking at baby names early. You are likely to change your mind often, so the more time you allow, the easier it will be. Think about nicknames that go along with the name you choose for your baby. For example, if you name your child "Robert" friends and family maybe refer to your baby as "Bobby." Be sure you choose a name that has potential nicknames you are happy with. - Sandy Evans

Choose a name that gives you a warm, comfortable feeling that you associate with something positive like beauty. Avoid choosing a name that associate with something awkward or reminds you of someone you dislike.

A child's name will sound better if the first name does not have the same number of syllables as the last name. You should practice saying the first and last name aloud. Then practice saying them with the middle name as well to find out how they sound together. Make sure the name is easy to pronounce and not awkward. - Annie Huddleston

Avoid names with initials that spell out words. You don't want your child being teased.

Babysitter Tips

When you go out for the first time and leave your baby home with a sitter, your odor can keep him calm and secure. Before going out for the evening, leave behind an item of clothing that you wore all day. - Paula Stewart

Be sure to provide your babysitter with all the numbers necessary in case of an emergency. Always leave your cell phone on. If you're in a quiet place be sure to leave it on vibrate.

Leaving your baby with a sitter can be a challenge, especially for first time mothers. However, as hard as it may be, you should go out once in awhile and give yourself a break. You deserve it! - Tara Smith

Timing is crucial. Your baby is only ready for a sitter when you are. For many parents, this is when a baby is about six months old. Take baby steps. For example have a sitter come for a short period of time and as time goes on you will be able to leave your child alone for longer
